Senior Software Engineer in an AI research organisation

We are looking for a Senior Research Engineer to join our Tech team and help us bridge strong software engineering with applied AI research.

This is a senior, hands-on engineering role with substantial technical ownership. You will lead and contribute to the development of software systems used across KInIT, work closely with research teams to turn promising research outputs into reliable solutions, and help strengthen software engineering practices across the institute.

Your mission at KInIT


Build and lead software solutions across KInIT

  • Technical ownership: Take end-to-end ownership of selected KInIT systems, leading architecture, implementation, deployment, operation, and long-term maintainability.

  • Hands-on development: Actively contribute code across the full application stack.

  • Internal tools: Collaborate with application owners to deliver practical solutions. An initial priority will be advancing an internal project and capacity allocation tool.


Turn research results into practical solutions

  • Production AI/ML: Transform models, methods, and pipelines into reliable, reusable software assets.

  • End-to-end architecture: Design surrounding architecture, including APIs, user interfaces, access management, monitoring, and infrastructure, to make research operational.

  • Scalable AI services: Expose ML models as scalable services, create applications around novel research outcomes such as models or pipelines, and build reusable serving, benchmarking, and data processing infrastructure.


Strengthen software engineering at KInIT

As a senior, you are expected to:

  • Establish standards: Introduce reusable patterns, tools, and best practices to streamline development across teams.

  • Knowledge sharing: Share practical engineering expertise across the institute.

  • Modern tech adoption: Bring the latest advancements in cloud infrastructure, software engineering, and AI engineering into daily workflows.

Personality requirements

Required skills

  • Senior engineering background: Proven track record in senior roles with the ability to architect and lead software systems, not just features.

  • Core tech stack: Strong hands-on Python skills, with experience in backend services, APIs, databases, and modern web application development.

  • Architecture & operations: Solid understanding of system architecture, testing, maintainability, production deployment and Docker.

  • Technical ownership: Pragmatic decision-maker capable of driving technical strategy from concept to production.

  • Collaboration & language: Strong communication skills with both technical and non-technical stakeholders; English at B2 level or higher.

Nice to have

  • Cloud & DevOps: Kubernetes, OpenStack (as a user), CI/CD, and IaC (Terraform).

  • AI / MLOps Infrastructure: Model serving, inference optimization, scalable AI infrastructure, and production MLOps.

  • GenAI & Agent Integration: Integrating LLMs, AI agents, pipelines, and AI-assisted development tools into production workflows.

  • Research Engineering: Experience in research environments or direct collaboration with AI/ML research teams.
